Arrested for Praying

Pro-Lifers Arrested for Praying

SUCCESS!

On July 3rd and 4th, 2010, two students, Joe Holland and David Avignone, were arrested while praying in front of a Chicago Planned Parenthood abortion facility. Both Joe and David were charged $500 for violating the new Chicago “Bubble Zone” ordinance which was passed last October by the Chicago City Council.

Joe and David had free legal representation from the Thomas More Society and on August 10th and 13th, 2010 all charges were dismissed, thanks to the efforts of thousands of pro-lifer and Christians across the nation.

More information:
The Chicago “Bubble Zone” ordinance requires anyone trying to counsel within 50 feet of a medical facility to receive permission to approach a woman closer than 8 feet. It does not, however, specify how close you can stand to the entrance of a clinic. This ordinance is unconstitutional and was developed to help Planned Parenthood and other abortion facilities silence peaceful pro-life counselors and prayer warriors. Even the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois agrees that the Chicago “Bubble Zone” ordinance is unconstitutional.

What is most disturbing about this case is that Joseph Holland was standing outside of the abortion facility peacefully praying the rosary. He wasn’t even trying to counsel women walking into the facility!

Is praying civil disobedience?

Should Christians lose their the rights to freedom of speech and religion if they are in-front of an abortion facility?
